Matt was laying down on the floor, looking up, on the floor around him, 8 bodies of knocked out guards, Matt’s clothing was cut up and blood stained… he walked over to Alice and grabbed the sword that he had planted in the ground before the 5 additional guards came. Struggling to pull it from the floor, he used it as a cane to keep himself standing.
Alice: “are you okay?”
Matt: “I’m like a ninja; the only thing that can kill me is a broken heart.”
Alice: “…ninja?”
Matt: “…never mind… how much longer until this freaking death wave is coming…”
Alice: “the Masters send squads of Corrupted units into towns who cannot pay there debts, or do not follow the rules… this town hasn’t been able to pay the Masters…”
Matt: “who are these Masters you keep telling me about...”
Alice: “about fifteen years ago a swarm of Corrupted swept across the world killing almost seventy percent of us… they would kill you than transfuse you with there spit or blood to change you into one of them… they do no require sleep… nor food… the three Masters came a year after the arrival of the Corrupted, they said they would be able to keep them at bay.. If we followed there rules… and their religion…”
Matt: “why don’t you just tell the people that the Corrupted are coming?”
Alice: “we’ve tried too, but they don’t believe it, though its only been fifteen years, people still forget all these things… talking about them is a death sentence…”
Matt: “…wait a second… so if you tell them these guys are gunna killum they just say naw, don’t worry bout it, they’d never harm us”
Alice: “exactly…”
Matt: “that’s a giant failure”
Alice: “it truly is, and this village hasn’t been able to keep up its pay, even though they know this they know that if they run, now they’ll never be able to escape the Corrupted.”
The fire had been loosing light; rebels had stopped burning things, and had moved out to the limits of town to prepare… A loud shrieking echoed from the outskirts of town… From behind the flame there was a loud screaming, the shrieks of a man along with the sounds of crunching…suddenly in the middle of a shriek it went silent. The once bright fire was now a collection of blackened dust with small sticks of wood still aflame laying amongst a large black circle of charcoal. A wave of guards came running towards Matt and Alice from the other side of the flame. Matt lifted up the sword holding it with both hands, the sword teetered up and down as Matt tried to hold it up with whatever strength he had left…
Alice: “they aren’t attacking us…they’re running from them…”
